“Feelings Matter”

Lead Pastor, Stephen Macaluso

You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Do not murder.  If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are angry with someone, you are subject to judgment!  If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the high council.  And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.”            Matthew 5:21-22 (NLT)

How To Make Your Feelings Matter:

1.  Give your heart priority

“So if you are standing before the altar in the Temple, offering a sacrifice to God, and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you leave your sacrifice there beside the altar.  Go and be reconciled to that person.  Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.”        Matthew 5:23, 24 (NLT)

2.  Take your heart seriously

And if your hand— even if it is your stronger hand— causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.  It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”        Matthew 5:30 (NLT)

3.  Treat your heart practically

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

1 Corinthians 13:4

Be humble and gentle.  Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.             Ephesians 4:2 (LB)

Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you.             Ephesians 4:32 (LB)

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres          1 Corinthians 13:5-7

And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.         Galatians 6:9 (LB)
